  About the show

I moved to Santa Fe right before Christmas 2010. Chilly snowflakes and the warm light of farolitos welcomed me.

Since then, I’ve just realized I have not taken any real trip outside the Santa Fe area. I have been busy with my work, but the true reason is that Santa Fe is such a great tourist destination itself. I would rather spend time here, wandering around numerous trails in the mountains or visiting various events on weekends. There is no need to take a vacation any place far away when my new home town has so much going on! In short, while I am now a resident here, I still see through the fresh eyes of a visitor.

It may be the norm to long-term Santa Feans, but every time the sun sets, stars rise, or rain falls, the colors change dramatically. They also change astonishingly each season. The sky seems larger and closer than ever here. I am pleasantly surprised to witness how beautiful this place is all the time.

Almost all of the photos in this exhibition, “Colors in Santa Fe,” were taken within a few miles of the Plaza. Some of them were taken literally just a few steps outside my door. It will probably take a long, long time for me to get used to the beauty of this place. I am looking forward to finding more colors as time goes on.

I was born and raised in Japan. I spent my twenties working for a big manufacturing company in Tokyo. It was only after I moved to the US that I turned to photography as my profession.

I feel it was indeed a lucky destiny that brought me to Santa Fe. Since my arrival here, I have been closely involved with Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and I continue to get inspiration for both my portrait and fine art photography from the richness of Santa Fe and its great art community.
